The Ghan

A bit of trivia but then what are we here for?

The west bound Ghan ran through Unley Park at 2045 on 17th December
empty.   This would be about 9 hours late and was due to hold ups
due to some prat leaving a truck on a level crossing at Cookes Plains
which (the truck that is) was hit by a NR frieght with a total damage
bill of $500000 or thereabouts including considerable damage to the
NRC locomotive (presumably an NR), estimated by NRC at being at least
$200000.   Apparently the truck was spread over 500 metres or so, so
the train must have been moving at some speed.

GSR presumably took the passengers off by bus and formed a new Ghan
to Alice Springs ex Adelaide since all was quite at Keswick at 2100.

There was a load of cars on the Ghan.   OK if they were from Melbourne
to Adelaide but what if they were Melbourne - Alice Springs?   The
next GSR train isn't due until Tuesday.
