Our "house" copy of Melways is the extremly up to date 1980 edition, and
it lists a lot of the stations that have been mentioned on this thread,
a highlight is:
"Templestowe/Doncaster East" Line
This line was proposed to branch of from Victoria Park Station, and go up
the middle of the (then proposed) eastern freeway, probably similar to
perths northern line. The track would continue along until it just past
the bulleen road turnoff, where they would be a station (probably bulleen
or balwyn north) and then follow the freeway for another km or so, then
split off. It would then go underground, under Manningham Road and High
street Templestow (rough guess of about 2-3 kms) pop up for a bit, then
go underground again, terminating at a station (maybe doncaster) It
would then go the lst 1 Km, including 2 small tunnels, to finally end at
Doncaster east.
Seems like a lot of work for 3 stations.
If you want to follow this in a more current melways, follow the eastern
freeway from victoria park (44 E4) through maps 45, 31 and 32, the first
station was at 32 E11, the line left the freeway at 32 H11. It also went
underground there, and stayed underground through the following: (list of
melways ref's coming up)
32 H10, 32 I10, 32 K9, 33 A9, 33 B8, 33 C8.
At ref 33 D8, it came up from underground, only to dip back under at 33
E8, under williamsons road. The next station was at 33 F8. After that
the line stayed above ground through 33 G8 went underground for most of
33 H8 came up for 33 J8, 33 K8, and went underground again for 34 A8 and
34 A9. It came up again (last time) in 34 B9, and the last station was
in 34 C9, with a little bit of track after the station, which could mean
it could keep going (into donvale/park orchards presumably)
(Who is actually gonna look this up, no one i bet :)
This melways also lists the port melbourne and st kilda lines, over the
bridge from flinders street. It also lists coldstream and yarra glen as
real stations.
