Not twin engined - used 12 cylinder instead of 6 cylinder engine. One
preserved about 5 minutes away from where I sit.

Notes:
A: Built as shunters, but used on commuter passenger services (Those in
Auckland seldom over 3 cars anyway). In outline similar to BR class 20.
B: Similar in appearance to LMS diesels 10000/1, DG and DH single-ended,
DF double -ended. * Some rebuilt with cab similar in outline to DI class.
C: In outline similar to BR class 20 with GM - type cab.
There are/were 93 shunters (Ds, Dsa,and Dsb), 73 0-6-0 with Gardner or
National engines
built by Vulcan/Drewry or Bagnall between 1949 and 1955 and either DM or
DH transmission (sometimes DM and DH in same class!), and 20 DE Bo-Bo of
class Dsc by BTH/Clayton built in 1959 with 2 x R-R C6SFL engines and centre
cabs.
There were also 15 0-6-0 DM build by Hunslet of a similar design to the
other 0-6-0. It appears that the design was standard and that different
batches were built to it by different manufacturers. The shunters were in
the same power class as the BR class 08.
There's another class, Tr, (shunting 'tractors') which are usually
stationed at smaller stations. These are similar in power to the BR '01',
and were nearly all made by Drewry. I'm not sure - is Drewry now part of
GEC-Alsthom?
