On train and locomotive numbers, notice how easy it
would be to confuse the two.!  
Apart from historical reasons, CR/ANR used alpha
numeric for locos and 4 digit numbers for the trains
possibly to prevent confusion on train orders.  
Train numbering did eventually go alphanumeric,
although they began and ended with a letter.  Hmmmm.
The computer check letter added to loco's in later
years and used ad nauseum by rail publications was
NEVER used for train working.
